What is the Trailer? - Know About The Types Of Trailers


What is Trailer? 

A trailer is a type of powered vehicle. This is commonly used for the transportation of goods and materials of different types. It is used for forwarding limited living facilities where people can stay or camp.

In Georgia, many types of trucks & Trailers are manufactured with different features and purposes of transportation. These are specially built for commercial use purposes. 

What are the types of trailers? 

Trailers are extra carrier vehicles which are used for different transportation. There are many types of trailers; each trailer has a different capacity and different purpose. Some of them are given below: -

1. Flatbed trailers: Flatbed trailers are very common and highly versatile basically used for transportation of almost everything from steel coil to lumber because these trailers are open and easy to load & offload of materials and the maximum weight that can be loaded on a flatbed trailer is 48,000 pounds.

2. Covering Flatbed Trailer with a trap: Covering flatbed trailers are like flatbed trailers but its covered with a trap here are some covered flatbed trailers.
  • Steel Trap is used for steel freight such as steel coil. Steel Trap has used basically those things which are of high quality and need extra protection. These traps are usually 24 feet long & 12 feet wide range.
  • Lumber Trap is used for transportation like lumber wallboard, trim molding, etc. which protect goods from dust & rain. They can carry goods for 7 feet on each side.
  • Glass Clear Trap is suitable to carry those materials which need to be protected from dirt, dust, rain, & slime. Because these are made with fishnet knitted or thick weaved material.
  • Smoke Trap is in a rectangle shape and smaller than other types of traps. It is used for a smaller load like PVC or Steel etc.


3. Dry Vans or Enclosed Trailers: Enclosed trailers have a container to enclose the material load. It’s also a very common trailer but quite affordable like other flatbed trailers and used to transport almost everything ranging from tools to band types of equipment. These are 48 to 53 feet long in size & can carry weight approx 42000 to 45000 pounds.

4. Refrigerated Trailers: These trailers are used to those materials transportation that cannot be exposed to warmer temperatures like frozen foods, ice- creams or pharmaceuticals. The size of these trailers is approx 8.2 in width and 8 feet in length. 

5. Lowboy Trailers: These types are trailer sit very close to the ground and used to shipping of very huge items like heavy construction equipment as bulldozers, excavators, etc. lowboy trailers weight limit is very higher than other trailers 40000 to 80000 pounds & 14 feet higher materials can be loaded.

6. Step Deck Trailers: These are quite similar only difference between is maximum legal height because flatbed trailers are 60 inches above to the ground and step deck is even closer to the ground. These are used to carry those items which are taller than 8 feet as flatbed trailers.

7. Extendable Flatbed Trailers: These trailers can be extended. Lengths of these types of trailers are not fixed approx 43 feet long to be extended up to approx 80 feet long. These are looking like truck trailers. 

8. Stretch Single Drop Deck Trailers: Like their name, these trailers are also like other step-deck extendable trailers but the difference between them is that these are used for too big material and also provided additional support than others.

9. Removable Gooseneck Trailers (RGN): RGN Trailers are used to load taller objects, bigger, heavier & larger items.  For that, they also have a permit. These are also known as double lowboy or double drop trailers.

10. Specialty Trailers: These trailers are designed by a specific purpose. For example:-Moving massive quantities of liquid items of medical or food services. These trailers also have the permit to load and load off those types of items and their weight limit can be much as 200000 pounds. Some of the Specialty items are like Hazardous Materials, Medical Trailers, Event Marketing or Display Trailers, Food Services Trailers, Vending Trailers, etc.
